The Arts

Beyond participation in Music and Art classes as part of the core curriculum, OLG students have the opportunity for significant additional involvement in the Arts, including Choir, Band and Theater.

Choir for Grades 3-5

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Choirs meet once weekly for 30 minutes during the lunch recess. All students have an opportunity to participate. The children perform for special events including holiday concerts, religious celebrations and community events.

Middle School Choir

The Middle School Choir rehearses once weekly before school. There are special performance opportunities including community holiday concerts, liturgical celebrations and sporting events. Past performances include: Christmas caroling at Mall of America, Minnesota Twins Games, Veterans Day programs, and Christmas concerts.

Beginner Band

In the spring, 4th graders are invited to explore various band instruments and choose one to play in the Beginner Band which starts in the fall. The Beginner Band meets twice weekly before school in addition to small group lessons.  The Beginner Band performs two concerts each year, in December and in May, and may also perform at some school Masses.  If your student is considering joining the Beginner Band, then 4-6 individual lessons on his/her instrument are recommended before the school year begins in order to get a solid start!  You may sign-up for individual lessons at area music stores or through the School Band Director.

Intermediate Band

Band students in 5th through 8th Grade (who have at least one year of organized band instruction) are combined to create the Our Lady of Grace Intermediate Band. The Intermediate Band meets twice weekly before school in addition to small group lessons during the school day. Performances have included playing the Star Spangled Banner at a Twins Game, performing at the Mall of America, and playing at school Masses. The Intermediate Band also performs two concerts in December and in May.

Families of band students are billed for band tuition through TADS. If you would like further information about the School Band program, please contact Jeff Jensen at jeffjensen@olgschool.net

8th Grade Play

The 8th Grade Play is a yearly event that involves all 8th graders, providing an activity that may spark an interest in fine arts as students prepare for high school. There are roles for singers, dancers, actors, artists, and those with interest in technical areas, all working together to create a wonderful performance that is a showcase for the talents of our students. Most of all, it is a fun-filled memory builder before the 8th grade graduates go their separate ways.

Art

Our students have weekly Art classes to explore a variety of media and artistic styles.

Art Adventures is a unique partnership with parent volunteers and the Minneapolis Institute of Art that allows our students in K-5 to expand their Art appreciation and ties in with several curricular areas.
