Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination (DI) is back!

Registrations Due Monday, October 14
Students form teams of two to seven students to solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. Teams learn important life skills like time management, collaboration, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking.

Teams choose one of seven challenges. Depending on the challenge, students should spend two to four months developing and practicing their Challenge solutions and after weeks spent creating and developing these solutions, they go to a tournament. Top-scoring teams advance, and the top tier goes to our Global Finals tournament – the world’s largest celebration of creativity!

DI seasons run from August through May.

Reasons to join Destination Imagination

  • DI demonstrates that learning can be FUN!

  • DI identifies, celebrates and builds on a student’s strengths.

  • DI provides authentic learning and authentic assessment.

All OLG students or parishioners in grades 5-8 who love basketball are invited to participate in OLG Winter Basketball! Winter basketball will run November 2019 - February 2020.

Time Commitment

Practice

Teams will practice two times per week.  Practice times can be as early as 7:00 AM or as late as 8:30 PM and will start the second week of November.

Games

Fifth and sixth grade teams will play games every Saturday beginning the first week in December, taking a two-week Christmas break and finishing their season by the end of February.

Seventh and eighth grade games will be played on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday starting as early as 4:30 PM and finishing their season by the end of February.

Teams

Most grades will have two or more teams for the boys and girls.  The teams are formed with the idea that they will be balanced.

Rosters may change from one year to the next based on a number of different factors including:

  • The numbers of players returning from the previous year

  • The number of new players registering to play

  • The number of traveling players signing up.

NOTE: Carpool requests will be considered when forming teams, but will not be the primary determining factor.

Carpooling

Any request for carpool consideration must be made prior to the formation of the teams. Families requesting carpool considerations must live in the same neighborhood and the request must be indicated on the registration form of each family involved.

Volunteer Coaching

Teams are coached by a volunteer group of individuals consisting of teachers, parents, parishioners, and former OLG students.  If you have been a part of this group in the past and would like to again or are new to OLG basketball and would like to get involved, complete the coaches form page on the registration form.
