Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, Our Lady of Grace grades K-6 will be using a standards-based grading and reporting system.
We are excited about this transition, as this new grading system will:
Be better aligned to the OLG School mission
Provide more consistent and precise feedback to students and parents
Encourage students to take a more active role in the learning process
Ensure student mastery of grade-level standards
Provide increased rigor and greater enrichment opportunities
As with any transition, extra support will be provided for parents and students at the beginning of and throughout the 2016-17 school year. More concrete examples and opportunities to learn about this in the context of your child's curricular experience will occur at Back-to-School conferences in August, Parent Information Nights in September, and Parent Teacher Conferences in November.
Additionally, the design of the rollout of our standards-based grading system with just one middle school grade in 2016-17 is intentional. This will allow for special emphasis being placed on the successful transition to middle school for this sixth grade class. All of the middle school teachers will be able to collaborate and support the sixth grade teachers and students for a successful year. This will also provide time for parent input.
