Book Reports

      Starting in October, students will be asked to report on a novel of their choice each quarter.  Students will sign up for their date of presentation.  Several presentation options are available, however, all presentations should be able to speak about the following:

Main Characters

Settings

Problems

Solutions

Theme (Lesson Learned)

Here are the choices for activities.  Choose one in addition to knowing the above ideas.  You may only do each option one time.

-Write a biography of the author (2 para. min.)
- Create 3 poems based on a character
- Make a visual representation from a chapter & explain significance
- Research the setting (if it is an actual place) - 2 pages, double-spaced, with bibliography
- Discuss 5 important quotes, who said it, and why it is important ( 1 para. per quote)
- Create a new book cover
- Write a newspaper article about an event in the book (who, what where, why, how; 3 para. min)
- Create a timeline of important events; 5 event minimum, explain in sentences why each event is important.
- Write three diary entries from the point of view of character (1 para per entry)
- 10 years after - where are three of the characters now? (1 para per character )
- Re-write the end of the novel (min 3 para)
- Create a vocabulary sheet with difficult words, including definitions and an original sentence ( 5 word minimum)
- Create a movie poster for the novel.  Be ready to explain your visual choices.

-Create a novel box or bag.  Put 5-10 items in the bag that relate to the story, setting or characters; explain how each item connects to the story.

-Write a letter to the author, explain your specific likes and dislikes of the story and thank him or her for the effort (min 3 para.)

Students may continue their progress with the Math Facts program that we use at school.  There is a software requirement to use this program at home.  At the bottom of the home page click on Check Software Requirement to see if your home computer will run the program.  Adobe is needed.  Any other necessary software is available online.
