About the Middle School Service Club

The MSSC was set up for students who want to work together with their friends to serve others in need. This is not a club designed to fulfill the Middle School service hour requirements, but a club for students who want to go above and beyond the requirements. It is a club for students who have a strong desire to help others. It is an opportunity for 6th, 7th and 8th graders to get to know each other and to work together for a common goal. It is also designed to introduce the students to a variety of people and places that need our help as we explore how they can follow in Jesus' footsteps as servant leaders.

Here is how it works:

• A schedule of events will be sent to each club member within the first few weeks of each half of the year, fall and spring. Students may sign up for as many events as they would like.

• A week or two before each event, if there are any openings remaining from the initial sign up, the MSSC Coordinator will send out an e-mail with a sign-up deadline date. For some events, there is limited availability, predetermined by the organization. (When the numbers allowed are small, we will attempt to offer the same event more than once.) All spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis and may be filled before the scheduled deadline.

   

• Each student may participate in all events, but must participate in at least 5 events from the fall schedule and 5 events from the spring schedule.  Any event that is 3 hours or longer will be counted as 2 events.  Students who do not participate in at least 5 fall events will not be re-enrolled in the MSSC for the spring, but are eligible to re-enroll the following school year or to petition the principal to remain in the club.   

• If a student signs up for an event and has to cancel, it is the student's responsibility to immediately contact the MSSC Coordinator.

• Some new opportunities may come up and be added on during the semester. Club members will receive an e-mail notice about these events as they occur.
